Contentment

Intended to have Ton Ton with me as I played mahjong on my computer. Afraid that he’ll pee& poo if I just leave him on the floor, I cradled him in my left arm & clicked away with my mouse with my right hand. Having just eaten at 2 pm, his eyelids started drooping. & he dozed off. I can feel his warmth against my tummy. I heard him snort a few times as he sleeps. Stirred awake several times when the thunder grumbled low before drifting back to sleep when he was certain that I’m still beside him. What other joy can a parent want?

He came to me on the 24th, just last Friday. In the short time that he’s been here, I’ve been amused & frustrated by this fur ball. I’ve wrinkled my nose at his stinkability, I’ve also smelled his freshly ‘laundered’ scent. He’s my little kid.

Buy Your Way Out Of Loneliness

How is it that sometimes when you finally got everything you want but yet feel even more miserable than before? Is this how the very rich feels? They bought everything they could with their money. Yet it seems that they've become the loneliest person in the world. In their pursue for more & more, they've left people behind. People who gave a damn. They're at the top of the world. But they have nobody to share their success with. They thought that they don't need anyone, that they're capable of achieving what they want by themselves. What is joy when it cannot be shared?

An Unlikely Appreciation

Remember the anti-smoking campaigns in the 80s? I may have been in primary school but I remembered bits & pieces of the commercials. I remembered 1 especially where there were girls roller skating. This girl got upset with her bf becoz he was smoking & she ignored him. It was only when he put out the cigarette that she forgave him. The commercial made use of the then very popular song, "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gees. I hated it. They are guys right? Why are they singing like that? I hated it for many years.

I did eventually warm up to them. & it happened only in the recent years. Jeff's a fan of Bee Gees. I would used to tease him by imitating "Staying Alive" in a fake voice. It was a slow process of introducing me to them coz I was very resistant. But now I can safely say they have many songs which I love. & yes, "Staying Alive" is 1 of them.

Natural Ability

People gravitate towards forgetfulness naturally. Well, it is not such a bad thing. We need it to survive. One should not have to bear the grievances of past precedents. It is too often all consuming.

Never Trust

Learnt yet another lesson. Never ever trust people. Especially your colleagues. If need be, just discuss superficial issues. The weather, the issues in singapore. Anything but yourself. Even casual remarks have a way to come back to haunt you. Guess I gotta live with it for a while & wait for it to die off.

Almost An Accident

Tuesday night. As usual, I have to take the feeder bus back home from the train station. I was really engrossed in my novel so I didn't witness what exactly happened. But I do know that the bus had stopped for the red light. After a while, the bus accelerated for the green light. That was when the driver jammed on the brakes & I went flying into the seat in front of me (which was facing me in the opposite direction). I banged both my knees, scrapped my left arm & hit my jaw on the seat handle. It was later when I realised how I must have looked with my butt sticking in the air.
Anyway, this car must have been making a right turn from the opposite direction. (We were at a cross junction.) Say my bus is heading north. This car going south makes a right turn into the west. Now, this west has 2 directions separated by a kerb. This car drove straight into the oncoming direction & stopped between the vehicles waiting at the red light & my bus. Even if the driver didn't wait for oncoming vehicles to clear, there's no way a seasoned driver can drive into the wrong lane with a kerb separating them. Worse still, before the bus cleared the path, the car started to reverse! The bus driver immediately braked & honked at him. When I looked, this car didn't have a P plate. So either, the driver was drunk or 2, driving without license or 3, daydreaming. Personally, I think it's number 2.
Now it's Thursday & my knees are swollen & bruised still. These people shouldn't be allowed to drive! What are they thinking? Putting their life & other people's life in danger! Driving tests should be more difficult to pass. & maybe they should be given a survey & those who pose a risk to the public shouldn't be allowed to learn driving. But that's just my wishful thinking. Oh well...
