The Whole Story
This is my account of the phone calls she made to me on Tuesday, after my night. I wrote it down immediately after the various phone calls she gave me. But I didn't want to put it up till everything comes to an end. It's not the end yet but at least most of the truth is out.
21st Nov 2006, Tuesday, 10.30 am
- Received call from my supervisor. "Something major happened & there was a complain to the Head of School & there was no documentation. You did not enter into the system."
- Clarified with her. The case was regarding this boy who fractured his arm (Right if I'm not wrong). Forearm was bent at an awkward postion. I remember the case coz this was the 1st time I've seem such bad closed fracture. Mom was informed but she prefered to bring him to the hospital by herself instead of us calling the ambulance. Sister was informed to join him in the clinic.
- At that point in time, my supervisor asked me to enter the sister into the system as well so
there's a record of her whereabouts. The boy is a must to enter.
- I remember keying into the new system, although now I'm not sure why as both their names were in the old system. But I do remember that there were a few days when the new system was just launched that we keyed most data into the new system until we decided to go back to using the old system. Reason being that the new system is 'faulty' as we can't retreive the data onced saved & cleared. This could be 1 of the days & that's most probably why I entered into the new system for the boy & sister.
- She obviously didn't believe me about keying into the new system. She insisted that we would check for the name in the old system & only if the name isn't in the old system will we key into the new system. Of course she didn't know about us keying into the new system for a couple of days becoz although she's supposed to help us do data entry, she never did.
-She also told me that another girl who had bad insect bite on her foot dorsum was not keyed into the old system on 1 of my nights recently. I couldn't remember clearly & I didn't want to argue with her since I'm not 100% sure. But I knew somehow or another, I must have keyed in coz I'm careful with such things after 1 previous nasty incident. So I told her that if I didn't key her in, how did the morning nurse, who is my SRN colleague discharge her from the system? My colleague would have told me if I didn't key the girl in. But my supervisor refused to listen & hinted that I'm lying. She said, "If you had keyed it in, it'll definitely be in the system." She then proceeded to tell me that the Dr on call I called to see this girl said that the house call wasn't even necessary & that I made the school pay $150 for the house call for nothing. At that time, I described the signs & symptoms to the Dr, that the swelling had extended to mid toes & above the ankles from the localised swelling the day before. He told me, "If it's an abscess, it's an emergency & requires I&D. If you're worried, I'll make the trip down." So why is he singing a different tune now? Or perhaps it was my supervisor trying to make me look bad.
- I tried to call the man in charge of the new system who has the access to the data but there was no answer. I called the clinic & spoke to the agency nurse who was on duty (I know her & I can say that we get along well & she feels the same way towards my supervisor as me). She said they had already called the man in charge & he said that there was no data in the new system at all.
-I really don't understand how it could turn out this way. I really did key into the new system for both the boy & the sister, even keying in after checking with the mom on the boy's condition in the evening. I found out from her that he was either going for k-wiring (correcting the fracture by inserting wires) or ORIF (Open Reduction, Internal Fixation = inserting of plates & screws) if k-wiring fails.
- I also don't understand how the girl with the insect bite has no records. I just hope my colleague remembers seeing her record in the old system coz she was the 1 who discharged the girl from the system on Monday.
- My supervisor also said that it wasn't fair that she has to be answerable for my actions & that "Don't think you can let it pass & pretend as if nothing happened. You can't just sweep it under the carpet all the time becoz this is an ang moh school & it doesn't work this way."
- She then told me not to go in to work on Wed (today) & think about how I am going to explain to the Head of School on Friday morning when I go to work. It was almost as if she had already told them that I was at fault & hence they wanted to hear what I have to say before sacking me. Btw, she slammed down the phone on me a couple of times.
