Sam's Dad

I only have 2 close friends from Sec Sch with whom I still keep in contact with. Jon & Sam. We were never in the same class. I came to know Jon from SJAB & Sam from Jon. I'm more familiar with Jon's family coz we go over to his house more often than to Sam's place. I know Jon's sisters by name & I've met their husbands & kid. I've met both his parents numerous times. Though I won't say I know all of their history, I know the major events.

I've only met Sam's parents once or twice. I have no recollection of how they look like at all. I know his dad has been sick for a while, diagnosed with cancer of the lungs which spreaded to his brain. Last time I heard from Sam was during CNY where we all sat down at a deserted playground to talk. He said his dad was not very well & was in the hospital. It came as a shock when Sam informed us that his dad had passed away.

I went to the wake yesterday with Jon after work. Sam seemed to have come to terms with it. During the silent lapses I wonder what went on in his mind. We chatted & we found out more. Apparently, his dad had been staying at the hospice, not the hospital.

Life is unpredictable & most often than not, unfair. I'm sure everyone knows that. Life is so short. I just wish that everyone can see the truth in that. Do everything you want as long as nobody is harmed & be true to yourself. Life is just too short.
