Unexplainable Incidents

Back when the 7th lunar month 1st started, there was this 1 incident which was promptly flung to the back of my mind had not this morning's incident triggered the memory.

It was 12mn plus or minus 5 mins. Jeff was next door playing his online game. I can't remember which 1, either DOTA or Maple. I was in my bedroom with Ton Ton, door closed & locked. Someone placed his/her hand on my door knob & turned once. Thinking that it might be Jeff, I opened the door. He was still next door playing & there was a light in the kitchen where my mom is. So I asked Jeff if he tried to open my door earlier & he said no. Brushing it off as my imagination, I went back to my room.

When Jeff did come in, I told him about the incident. He got scared & insisted that I accompany him to the toilet which I did. Becoz I felt that it would only be for a short while, I left Ton Ton in my room. While outside the toilet waiting for Jeff, I heard what sounded like Ton Ton's scream/cry. Just then, Jeff emerged from the toilet. Immediately, I asked if Jeff heard it. He said no. We rushed back into my room, only to see Ton Ton lying on the floor. He looked up at us without lifting his head & went back to sleep. Perhaps it was Jeff's presence that made me unafraid & maybe that's why I had forgotten about it.

I couldn't really sleep on this night shift. I switched off the lights at 1 am & fell asleep. From 2.45 am onwards, I was tossing & turning. When I slept on my sides, my arm ached for no reason & when I was on my back, my neck ached. Everytime I woke up from my aches, the time seemed to have moved very slowly, constantly hovering around 4+ am.

Now, to fully understand what was to happen, you have to understand how the call bell in this clinic works. There's 1 male dorm, 1 female dorm & 2 isolation rooms upstairs. In the dorms, there're 4 beds each. Beside each bed is a call button. Each dorm has a bathroom cum toilet which has another call button. The 2 isolation rooms share a common bathroom. Like in the dorm, each isolation room has a call button beside the bed & another 1 in the bathroom. There's 1 small LCD screen with a red & green button beside the bed in the nurses's bedroom. If anyone were to press the call button, a beep would go off & the LCD will display the location of the button pressed. I'll then have to press the green button to acknowledge & to stop the beeping. If several buttons were pressed upstairs, the LCD will display the location 1 by 1 but the beep will be muted just by pressing the green button once. The red button is the recall button which I can use to scroll through the different locations. To fully disable the call, I have to head to the location & reset the call system. If activated in several locations, I have to go to each location & press the reset button.

Last night, a girl wasn't feeling well & I assigned her 1 of the isolation rooms. At 5.30 am, the beep went off. At the same time, the fax machine beeped to signal that a fax was coming in. I was already awake by then & got up to mute the call system. The LCD displays "Female" which meant that the button in the female dorm had been activated. If it were the dorm toilet, it'll say "Female Bath" or "Male Bath" depending on the location. Now, that was weird coz the girl was in the isolation room. It would have read as "Iso Rm" or "Iso Rm Bath". The beep went off again, indicating that whoever pressed the call button pressed it again. I muted it again. It beeped again. I couldn't be standing there just muting the call system so I ignored the beep & went straight upstairs. I reset the call system from the female dorm. There wasn't anyone there.

I could have went to the isolation room to check on the girl but I didn't want to wake her up. So I went back downstairs. Now, how the hell did the system get activated by itself? I'm sure it isn't the girl coz I would have heard her moving around upstairs. The button was pressed many times & hence despite muting it, it went off to beep again. If it was her, she wouldn't have enough time to rush back into her room as I made my way upstairs & why would she do it?

Now I'm kinda freaked. I jumped when my HP alarm went off at 6.15 am as I was typing this. I went to stop the alarm. 6.20 am, the alarm clock went off & I jumped again. I usually set 2 alarms as I tend to hit the snooze button & go back to sleep. I better go home & check which day it is in the 7th lunar month. I know the 15th had just past last week or so. This is so scary!
